Free policy review

Already written an AI policy? Send it over and I’ll give you a straight, plain-English read on where it’s strong and the two or three things I’d tighten — measured against the current DfE, JCQ, ICO and KCSIE guidance. No cost, no obligation.

Why get it reviewed

Most schools are further along than they think — a recent NEU survey found about half have no AI policy at all. If you’ve written one, you’re ahead of the pack. But the guidance underneath it keeps moving: DfE, JCQ, Ofqual, the ICO and KCSIE have each shifted in the last year, and a policy can drift out of date without anyone noticing. A second pair of eyes — from someone who does only this, full-time, against a live source register — catches the gaps before an inspector, governor or exam board does.

What I look at

  • Whether it connects to the JCQ rules on AI in coursework and non-exam assessment — the piece that carries real Head of Centre accountability
  • Whether the data-protection basis is current: UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 — not the repealed 1998 Act or “EU GDPR”
  • Whether your safeguarding references point at the in-force KCSIE, including the AI and deepfake wording arriving September 2026
  • Whether staff use, student use, assessment integrity and data protection actually join up — or sit in separate documents with gaps between them
  • The smaller things: parent and carer engagement, tool-vetting against the DfE product-safety standards, reading level, and review dates

What you get back

A short, honest write-up: what’s genuinely strong (named, not flattered), the two or three gaps I’d prioritise, and what “good” looks like for each — in plain English you can take to your leadership team. If fixing it yourself looks like a lot of work, I’ll tell you how I’d do it and what it costs. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.

Your policy stays private

I only use your document to write your review. It isn’t shared, published, or added to any mailing list.

Common questions

  • Is it really free? Yes — no cost, no card, no obligation. It’s the most honest way to see what I do.
  • What should I send? Whatever you have — staff policy, student policy, assessment or academic-integrity policy, or a rough draft. Word or PDF.
  • Will you try to sell me something? I’ll tell you honestly what I’d fix and, if it’s substantial, what a done-for-you version costs (£495–£895 for a single school). No pressure.
  • How long does it take? Usually within three working days. I read every one personally.
